We adopted him from our local animal shelter this past weekend. He is a total joy. We aren't sure exactly what to expect from him except that he will be pretty large. They said he is about 12 weeks old. His kennel card says he is a Keeshond/Lab cross. When they took him out of his kennel to go to the "get acquainted" room, they decided he might be Great Pyrenese/shepard. I think he might have some golden retriever heritage. Might be St. Bernard or Newfoundland rather than Pyrenese too. Who knows?

Anyone else want to venture a guess?

I think he's an absolute angel and planning to be completely unobjective about him. :)

The gym lighting was dramatic for the matches but difficult for the photographer. They killed all the dome lights except for one large spot over the center of the mat. I had to choose whether to go for the dramatic effect when they were holding very still, or go with the flash and try to get a non-blurred picture. Since wrestlers don't hold still very well, I went for the flash.

Tim was featured in this evening's newspaper story about the match:

"Watching Tim Michaud drive his opponent into the deep red mat at Pueblo Centennial High School on Thursday night was like watching a drill in practice...."

The advantages of living in a small town. And Tim's 15 minutes of fame.

We stopped for a sub sandwich on the way home from the match, and Tim ran into the guy he wrestled again there. They greeted each other like best friends, had an animated conversation about the match overall, expressed sympathy for our 103 pounder who was pinned by a girl, and wished each other luck in future matches. Most of our kids are like that - they leave the competition and attitude on the mat.

Tomorrow we go back to Pueblo to the South Tournament. I am experiencing a lot of anxiety about this tournament. When my oldest son was a senior, he was thrown in the championship round of this tournament and broke his arm. His cast was removed in time to wrestle at regionals, but he had no strength in that arm and was beaten soundly. He had counted on wrestling at the state tournment that year and was bitterly disappointed. So I'm nervous about this.

Tim has his first wrestling dual since Christmas tonight. This image is from the Christmas tournament. One of his teammates pinned his opponent in one of the most unorthodox moves I've ever seen. Where do I begin? I've been sick. I'm better. My baby boy is a senior this year, so everything is happening for the last time.... After having kids in school for over 25 years, I'm looking at that part of my life ending come May. He will go to college out of state and my husband and I will have to adjust to life with no kids at home. It all seems very strange. Work is chaotic as usual. My whole unit moved in September. We were moved to the town where I live, so I am no longer commuting (after 11 1/2 years) which is a good thing. Today it was warm enough for a lot of people to be fishing. This couple was staked out down the hill a little bit and right in front of us. I didn't see them actually catch any fish, but they looked like they were having a great time. Made me wish we didn't have to go back to the office. We have been extremely short-staffed lately and work has been very intense. I've been taking a lot of things home to try to keep up, and I've been dealing with some health issues, which is why I haven't posted very much lately. We often say we work to live - we don't live to work, but sometimes it doesn't seem that way. I'm getting a new staff member the first of the month which will take some of the pressure off my unit and help quite a bit. But I am looking forward to the time when my honey and I can take some time off and just take pictures and "go fishin'".

This shot, by the way, is just a candid. I used my 75-300 mm and grabbed a shot. No post-processing - just re-sized for web. I'll try to catch up with some better shots photographically later today. I've tried to comment on some of your pictures - you guys are totally awesome and a real inspiration to me. Just wanted you to know how much I appreciate all of you.

We hiked down Grape Creek Ravine this morning and as we returned, we saw the stock truck coming down the road (which is a fairly narrow mountainish road). We hurried along, as we suspected they might need to turn around near where we had parked our truck, and we wanted to get out of their way. It's a good thing we did. The stock truck stopped short of our turnout and the ranchers started turning the cows out into the ravine. Had we been 10 minutes later, we would have had to make our way through the just-released bovines. Might have been a very interesting situation as the ravine is really not very wide.

As it was, I did get one shot of a cow exiting the truck. She headed off down the ravine with seemingly great glee. We will have to watch out for the bovine gang next time we hike the ravine.

It has been cold all week, with intermittant snow, highways closed here and there, wind, and fog. Today, however, it was mid-70's and bright blue skies. The peach trees have been trying to bloom. They put out a few blossoms last weekend which probably were frozen with the snow. The sunshine this weekend has coaxed a few more blossoms to unfurl. And I actually saw some bees working the blooms to spread some pollen around. Maybe some fruit will set before the next front comes through next week. The fruit crops are always a hit and miss proposition around here. We sometimes have snow well into May.

Looking forward to a photo/fishing trip tomorrow. Hope I have some trout to document!!! Take care everyone, and hoping for blue skies for all!

I was so looking forward to our trip to New Mexico to see our oldest daughter. The photo oppportunities there are so amazing and it was beautiful when we left... altho I wasn't feeling really well. I had fallen asleep at the computer Wednesday night..and awakened with a slight twinge in my neck - fancy that! I tried to ignore it - packed and did all the things you do to get ready for a trip (dont' forget the battery charger, the memory cards, etc. etc. - can't wait to take at least 1,000 pics - vacuum out the car - check everything twice) o.k. so I'm a little o.c. before a trip. I brought the bed buddy to help get rid of the little twinge in my neck. It's full of little seeds and you can heat it in the microwave for 90 seconds, then wrap it around your neck and it provides this lovely heat and aroma and fixes you right up - usually.

After six hours on the road, the "twinge" was so pronounced that I could barely swallow. I retired early, and woke up in screaming pain 2 hours later - could not move my head at all -up, down, or side to side. Couldn't even pick up the camera, much less try to take a picture. So bed buddy and I tried to make it through the next day. We were supposed to leave Saturday, but it snowed - a lot - and the pass was treacherous so we waited until Sunday to leave. By then, I was feeling a bit better (pharmaceuticals) and was able to even walk around a bit and take a picture or two - but nothing like I had planned.

This was on the way home, with bed buddy heating up via solar radiation on the dashboard. We'll get the great pictures next time.
